Juurai Martial Arts is headed by Andy Wilkinson (4th Dan Shotokan Karate, Chief Instructor, Chairperson & Treasurer) and assisted by Sam Wilkinson (Secretary & Asst Treasurer) Andy has been a qualified Karate instructor since 1996 and has trained in Shotokan Karate, Jujitsu-based Kobujutsu, WTF Tae Kwon Do with additional experience in other martial arts including Kung fu, aikido, judo and tai chi. Andy founded Renketsu Karate Club in 1997 and Ketsui Ryukyu Kobujutsu Club in 2007. Juurai Martial Arts was created in 2008 to be a parent organisation for both clubs so we could provide a unified committee and framework for building toward the future. Both clubs are now being rebranded and will simply be known as Renketsu and Ketsui respectively. Andy has recently attended courses and classes by Harry Cook, Julian Mead, Phil Snewin and Mark Carroll across the UK as part of furthering his Karate and Kobujutsu training. Harry Cook and Phil Snewin were the founding Chair and Vice-Chair of the TKGB (Traditional Karate Great Britain, a non-prescriptive national governing body for traditional karateka in the UK); a group which Andy was involved in founding and is now the Treasurer and Membership Secretary of. |

All of our Dan grade students assist with sub-teaching during classes and will be undertaking the TKGB instructor course shortly. All of our adult Dan grade assistant instructors are enhanced CRB checked. Some of our adult 1st Dan assistant instructors will on occasion cover classes and will be insured to £2m with the TKGB. These assistant instructors will be enhanced CRB checked, have current first aid certificates, know the grading syllabus and have completed training on H&S, lesson planning, teaching small groups, teaching large groups, structured teaching and goal setting. |
